Outdoor metals

Every outdoor furniture requires care and maintenance. These actions will certify that you have always shiny and new pieces. Neglecting these may cause rust and stains that can leave permanent damage to the pieces.

Clean outdoor metals are easy but keep in mind that each metal has its own characteristics. For that reason, we will show you the main guidelines for clean stainless steel and powder-coated aluminum.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is the most requisite material because it contains other metals like nickel and chromium that prevent it from easy corrosion. Although rust and corrosion are easily preventable, keeping this type of furniture clean and shining is a routine activity. The slightest spot or discoloration can detract from the sophisticated appeal of the stainless look.

How to remove stains?

  • Greasy Fingerprints – Rub white vinegar on the area using a damp soft cloth and rinse clean once the stains are gone.

  • Watermarks – Watermarks perform basic cleaning, wipe any excess water from the surface and let it air dry naturally, in the shade.

  • Rust & Corrosion – Lightly scrub the surface (in the direction of the grain) with a paste of baking powder and water using a soft-bristled brush. Rinse clean with fresh water afterward.

Powder-coated aluminum

Aluminum is a light metal with an excellent strength to weight ratio and corrosion resistance. Even so, it is strong and lightweight, it’s also more predisposed to denting than other metals. Pay attention when moving aluminum furniture for cleaning or storage. Dents compromise the strength of the metal and can damage permanently the metal.

How to maintain it?

  • Remove marks from shoes, tools, toys, and other objects, before performing a general cleaning;

  • Gently clean with water and a neutral soap;

  • Wipe off with a microfibre cloth;

  • Remove surface water with a drying cloth. It will prevent water spots;

  • Do not use, under any circumstance any abrasive cleaning agents or materials, as these could mark the surface of the powder coat.
